LIDL’S new store in Dittons Road in Polegate will open its doors for the first time at 8am on Thursday.

Th supermarket forms part of the company’s ongoing expansion and regeneration plans in the UK which will see it open between 50 to 60 new stores a year.

The store has created 40 new jobs for the community and has facilities such as an in-store bakery, longer tills with dual packing, customer toilets, baby changing and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Regional head of property Paul Mason said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Polegate.

“It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area.

“We can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

Lidl UK has experienced continued growth over the years.

More than two thirds of its products are British sourced.

Its sales growth is currently 16.8 per cent year on year with a market share of five per cent.

Meanwhile, budget retailer Aldi has knocked Waitrose off the top spot in an annual supermarket satisfaction survey.

Aldi was placed first in the in-store category, Marks & Spencer was placed second, while Lidl was third with Sainsbury’s placed bottom.
