MORE than 100 people have been arrested for drink or drug driving this month.
Sussex Police have said 141 motorists have been caught so far by officers during Operation Crackdown. The project, which the force runs annually from December 1 to January 1, 2018.
Last year police arrested 187 drivers in the crackdown, with 143 leading to convictions. It is a clampdown on the risk of causing death by careless driving.
The current maximum term for that crime is 14 years in prison, but new Government proposals could mean a life sentence for the driver. A Sussex Police statement warned: “If you’re prepared to drive with drink or drugs in your system, prepare to face the consequences.”
If someone suspects a driver of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs can text officers on 65999 with the details.
