A SCHOOL has received a £1,000 cash boost from their local supermarket to help support its student awards programme.

The Tesco Extra store, in Hazelwick Avenue, Crawley, has supported Hazelwick School with the £1,000 donation as part of the store’s commitment to the community.

Store manager Leigh Jerrard and customer service manager Emily Grabowska made a visit to the school to present headteacher Ann Fearon and assistant headteacher Dave Leadbitter with the giant cheque for £1,000 and to hear more about how the donation will be used.

Mr Leadbitter said: “This very kind donation from Tesco Extra Crawley will go towards the awards we give out to highly-deserving students in recognition and motivation evenings hosted by the school.”

Mr Jerrard said: “We are delighted to make a donation to Hazelwick School. It is important to us that as a store we play an active role in supporting our local community.

“It has been a pleasure to visit Ms Fearon, Mr Leadbitter and students at Hazelwick School to present them with this donation and discover how it will benefit them.”

Tesco Extra Crawley will continue to support Hazelwick School, assisting students hoping to take part in an upcoming sports tour.

Emily said: “We are planning to help students raise money to support their sports trip by arranging bag packs and fundraising opportunities for them in the store. We have developed close links with the school, so if we can help them we will.”

The store also took part in a recent Christmas Gift Fair hosted by the school on Tuesday, December 2.

The event featured local businesses and companies offering festive goods.

Emily added: “As a local business we were delighted to be invited to have a stall at the evening and to be able to support with the provision of raffle prizes too.”
