Oakmeeds barnstormed their way to a national finals day at the home of cricket after sweeping aside their regional opponents.

Oakmeeds Community College under-15 girls cricket team travelled to Buckinghamshire to take part in the Lady Taverners regional finals for London and the South East.

The girls barely broke sweat as they won all three group games before smashing Tunbridge Wells in the final to book their place at Lord’s.

The girls started strongly in their first group game against Didcot, bowling their opponents out for 31 with an excellent display in the field.

Emily Goss and Ella Ward stood out with some very sharp work and Jess Knight and Adeline Preston applied the pressure with some great bowling.

In reply, Oakmeeds amassed a huge 92-2 from their eight overs with Chloe Clarke-Walker, Izzy Deamer and Adeline Preston starring with the bat.

The second game against Waingels was a much tighter affair, Oakmeeds again won the toss and opted to bowl first, restricting their opponents to 64.

The reply stuttered with the loss of three early wickets, but Deamer and Abbie Dorgan, backed up by Goss, Ward and Abi Izzard steadied the ship to bring their team home to victory comfortably, with a winning total of 91-6.

In the third game against Wycombe High the girls turned in a much improved performance, electing to bowl first, and they dismissed their opponents for 68 thanks to captain Lottie Palmer-Brown’s pace and aggression, in addition to the accurate off-spin of Goss.

In reply, Deamer and Clarke-Walker got off to a rapid start and, supported by Preston, the girls raced to a winning total of 70-1 to qualify for the final.

Palmer-Brown won the toss for the fourth game running in the final and once again elected to bowl first.

Tunbridge Wells opened up and found themselves in trouble early on thanks to a successful opening over by the skipper.

Wickets fell regularly and Tunbridge Wells were dismissed for 50 in the sixth over as Preston grabbed a smart caught and bowled chance to claim the last wicket.

Deamer and Clarke-Walker opened the innings and put the fielders under pressure with intelligent shot placement and swift running between the wickets.

Clarke-Walker retired with a well made 15 and Preston came in to bat and took control of the game with a sizzling display which included a huge six.

When Deamer was dismissed with victory in sight and with Preston already retired, it was left to Abbie Dorgan and the captain Palmer-Brown to knock off the last few runs and take Oakmeeds to their victory with four overs to spare.

Oakmeeds will now travel to Lord’s on Wednesday, May 13 to take part in the Lady Taverners under-15 girls national finals.
