Worthing Under-11s are preparing to share the Twickenham turf with their idols later this month, and club manager Nick May admits excitement levels are reaching fever pitch.

Worthing have long been assured of their place at the end-of-season showpiece after they secured their spot at a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup festival hosted by Wasps on September 28.

Worthing will be taking part in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup Parade of Champions during half-time of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final – with May insisting his troops can’t wait to grace the hallowed Twickenham turf.

He said: “The players all loved the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup event – our first one – and they were all very excited when they heard what the prize was. One of the players and their parents are actually coming back from a holiday early to make sure they are at Twickenham – they booked it a while ago but they’ve made sure to change their plans so they can be there.

“Everyone is really looking forward to the experience of the whole day. They’ve been to internationals before but never had the opportunity to go on the pitch.

“That moment is one they will cherish as a team I am sure. It will be a massive day out for the club and a very memorable one for all involved.”

While some of the Worthing Under-12s stars’ Twickenham experience will start and end on May 30, World Cup winner Lewis Moody is adamant the occasion will continue to have a positive effect on their lives.

“The Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is a wonderful competition,” Moody said.

“The more young players who get involved in the game the better, and having the carrot of the chance to appear at Twickenham at the end of the season is great.

“To go along and walk on the famous Twickenham pitch will be something the kids will remember for all their lives.

“It’s set to be a great Aviva Premiership Rugby Final, the stadium will be packed and the atmosphere will be electric.”

Land Rover supports grassroots rugby and provides the opportunity for over 7,000 youngsters to take part in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup each season.
