A COLLEGE has enjoyed a dominant run of winning form in their sporting exploits in rugby, hockey and netball.

Pupils at Hurstpierpoint College enjoyed success in both countywide and national competitions over the Lent term, adding a host of silverware to their trophy cabinet.

The under-14 girls' Netball team was one of the college's biggest success stories winning the Sussex round of the National Schools Competition, the Sussex Independent Schools Netball Association (SISNA) competition and the Sussex Knockout Cup.

Also coming home with a trophy were the under-15 girls who won their category in the SISNA contest, were runners-up in the Knockout Cup and reached the quarter-final of the National Independent Schools Cup. The under-15 girls won all three games at the Lady Taverners indoor cricket tournament and progressed through the Sussex finals to finish second.

Tina Towler, head of girls’ cricket at the college, said: “The girls were disappointed as it was so close, but we are now really looking forward to the summer".

The under-14 side scored a try with just two minutes to go to take the lead over Christ's Hospital, the under-15s team defeated Cardinal Newman 29 to seven, and the under 16s held off a second half fight back to win their game 17 to 14.

In boys hockey the under 13 side won the Sussex Hockey Competition while the boys' first XI reached the quarter finals of the National Competition, only losing on penalties to Portsmouth Grammar School.

For the girls, the under 13 hockey team also enjoyed success winning the county championship while both the under 15s and under 19s both finished as runner-ups in the Sussex Knockout Cup.
