ARMED police arrested two men and seized a gun after an incident in a shopping centre supermarket.

Officers were called to the Tesco in Langney Shopping Centre in Eastbourne yesterday, shortly after 12 noon.

A member of the public had alerted centre security staff to two men causing alarm and an off-duty police officer intervened as the pair were attempting to leave the store.

Armed officers arrived and two men, both aged 18 and from Eastbourne, were arrested on suspicion of public order offences.

They were questioned and subsequently released on bail.

A gun was recovered from the scene.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses – particularly the member of the public who saw and heard the men and alerted security staff.

Anyone who saw what happened or who has any other information is asked to contact police online or call 101, quoting serial 536 of 18/06.

Alternatively, witnesses can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
