A VIGIL for murdered teacher Sabina Nessa is being held.

The vigil, which is being held on Eastbourne Pier, is happening at 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, October 5, and is inviting everyone to pay their respects to Sabina, who was found dead on September 18.

The event was organised by Natasha Peacock, along with Nicolette Florides and Marie Goodchild who said all are welcome and people can bring cards, flowers and candles to the vigil.

Nicolette Florides said: “There is various speeches and talks about women’s rights from local womens’ groups.

“It is going to be a massive event, we have a local mosque coming to the event. There will also be a minute’s silence.”

Nicolette is also hoping some of the local mayors will attend the event at the pier.

Sabina, who lived in Kidbrooke, south London, left her home at around 8.30pm on September 17 and is thought to have been heading to a bar to meet a friend.

However, the 28-year-old primary school teacher would never make it to the bar. She was found in Cator Park in Kidbrooke the next day, covered with leaves near a community centre in the park.

Koci Selamaj, 36, from Eastbourne was arrested in the seaside town in the early hours of Sunday and charged with her murder on Monday.

Selamaj's lawyer stated he would plead not guilty. He appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and appeared again this morning.

It is claimed her attacker used a 2ft long weapon to strike her repeatedly before carrying her away unconscious.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan QC told the court it was a “premeditated and predatory” stranger attack and there was no suggestion the defendant knew Ms Nessa.

The organisers have politely asked that people do not bring balloons to the event.
