A PANTO dame is to stand for election for the Monster Raving Loony Party – oh yes he is!
Jon Dixon, otherwise known as Jolyon Dixon, has thrown her hat into the ring for home constituency Hove for this May’s General Election.
She will face fierce competition from current Brighton and Hove City Councillor Graham Cox, Labour candidate, Peter Kyle, and Green candidate Chris Hawtree.
However, Dame Dixon is confident her policies will be enough to gain the support of the public.
She said: “I have lots of lovely policies dear, ranging from the trains to the economy. For example during engineering works, trains will be replaced by magic carpets.
“I want to offer those people who are disillusioned with politics the chance to exercise their vote without wasting it.”
Running with the tagline Don’t be Lame, Vote Dame, other policies touch on immigration and the environment.
For the former, the party is urging that anyone named Ronnie must only be allowed into the area in twos.
Business is also top of the agenda with every Friday proposed to be a take your frock to work day while one day each year Monopoly money will become legal.
Meanwhile she proposes that Hove and Portslade will be twinned with the giant’s kingdom at the top of the beanstalk and the official colour of Hove should be mauve.
Dame Dixon has worked in panto for ten years and has appeared alongside the likes of Madge Bishop from Neighbours, Vicki Michelle MBE from Allo Allo and Jane Tucker from Rainbow.
She added: “We are loony and we know we are loony, but we are not nutters. There are politicians out there that are nutters but there is a difference. They have policies that upset people but we have policies that put smiles on peoples’ faces. So come and vote for us. The Loonies are coming.”
Dame Dixon will hold a campaign launch event, with official campaign dog Daisy Duke, at the Verano Lounge in Western Road, Brighton, on February 26 at 10.30am.
She added: “I’ll be there in my full frock so come on down.”
