The family of MC Skibadee today announced the legendary drum and bass star has died at the age of 54.

Taking to the London-born artist’s Facebook page, no details surrounding the death of the star were given, just a request for privacy at this time.

The post reads: “Hello everyone, as Alphonsos first born i unfortunately come some with sad news to say that skibadee has passed away, as a family we ask for some privacy but may he rest in peace.”

Born Alfonso Bondzie, the musician started out on City Sound Radio in the early 90s and by the end of the decade had created a new sound by putting a drum and bass tempo over a hip-hop beat, creating a double-time effect.

Using this innovation, he released possibly his biggest hit, Inside Me, with the track being accepted by both MTV and The Box.

Just days ago, posts to Skibadee’s social media shared the release of new tune, Finally, made in collaboration by SASASAS, Zdot and DJ Phantasy and featuring Skibadee along with Harry Shotta and MC Shabba D.

At the beginning of the month, the artist also shared a video promoting an event he was on the bill for, Jungle Mania, taking place at Concorde2 in Brighton - possibly the MC's final live performance.
