A UK company has launched an “affordable” lateral flow test which they believe will “transform the market”.
Medisave, based in Weymouth, Dorset, has announced the launch of their self-test kit for only 99p.
The UK Government-approved Covid test kit is suitable for self-testing with results within 15 minutes.
A spokesperson for the global medical supplier said: “Medisave believes that this low-cost Covid19 test kit will transform the market and ensure affordability for individuals and workplaces following the government announcement that free testing will end on April 1, 2022.
“The Medisave supplied test will be several times cheaper than many high street chemists.”
Last week it was revealed free Covid-19 tests in England were being scaled back as people scramble for free test packs while they are still available.
People trying to order lateral flow tests are being discouraged to order packs when they try and access them online.
“Most tests are now needed for people at higher risk,” according to the online ordering system.
“In England, most people without Covid-19 symptoms no longer need to take rapid lateral flow tests.
“Some people still need tests to stay safe, like NHS staff; people who are at higher risk; people who are visiting high-risk places.
“We want to make sure tests are available for people who need them most.”
Free universal testing for the virus will come to an end on April 1, with free tests only being made available to the most vulnerable.
The 99p kit can be ordered online for personal home or workplace usage from the Medisave website.
