Nationwide customers need to be aware of a few important rules when depositing money at cash machines.

The building society has explained that payment limits vary depending on whether you're looking to deposit cash or cheques.

Customers can pay up to £50,000 per day in cheques at Nationwide cash machines, with a maximum of £2,000 per cheque.

However, that figure is greatly reduced if you're looking to deposit cash.

How much can Nationwide customers deposit at cash machines?

On its website, Nationwide shares that you can pay up to £2,500 a day in cash, so it's important to keep that figure in mind.

Additionally, the building society shares that most accounts at the building society can withdraw up to £500 a day from cash machines.

This is aside from FlexOne, which is £300, while it is not applicable for the Flex Saver and Limited Access Saver 9 accounts.

All accounts can deposit cash inside the actual branches.

What other services do Nationwide cash machines offer?

At Nationwide cash machines, you can also:

  • check your balance
  • pay bills or transfer money to existing payees
  • change or unlock your PIN
  • view and print a mini statement

The building society states that the services offered by their cash machines may vary, so checking with staff at the branches would be helpful.

How much can you deposit in cash machines at other banks?

Most other bank branches have similar limits, with Santander sharing that you can deposit 100 notes at a time at their cash machines.

They add: "The maximum cash deposit limit across Post Office and Santander cash machines is £2,000 per day or £10,000 in a rolling 12-month period. If you wish to pay in more cash you can do this at our branch counters."

For Natwest, deposits can be made at Cash & Deposit Machines (CDM) for a daily cap of £3,000 with an annual limit of £24,000.

Meanwhile, Barclays shares that you can post up to 200 banknotes at a time at their self-service machines.

This contributes to the annual limit of £20,000 that customers of the bank can pay into their personal accounts.

Even if a customer has more than one personal account, the total amount of cash you can pay in across all of them is still £20,000.

That annual figure resets in January of each following year.
