TIMEOUT today focuses on celebrities appearing in the county for a number of special occasions, whether it be book signings, ribbon cuttings or meet-and-greets with fans.

Onepicture shows singer Russ Conway unveiling a commemorative plaque for an unidentified centre which opened in 1961.

The plaque reads: “The opening ceremony of this centre was performed on Wednesday 26th July 1961 by Mr Russ Conway.

“Chairman Dr CWW Read, BSc and PhD and speakers Coun DRE Hale, Mr E Amos, Mr J Honey and Mr T Powell.”

Does anyone remember the ceremony? Can you tell us which centre was opened? And do you know anything about any of the speakers?

Boxer Freddie Mills paid a visit to the county in 1961 to cut a ribbon but do you remember why?

The world light heavyweight champion from 1948 to 1950 rose to notoriety after his death – an apparent suicide – as it emerged he may have been connected to The Krays and the Hammersmith nude murders of 1964/65.

Actress Wendy Craig visited to cut a ribbon and we can see her appearance was very well received! Do you know which building she is opening in our picture?

Esther Rantzen is also cutting a ribbon ay an unidentified place, and a little boy is helping her do so. Do you know when or which building this is?

And do you know what happened to the little boy? Does he still live in the area?

We also have two pictures of Joan Collins at a book signing of her autobiography, Past Imperfect: An Autobiography. Do you recognise anybody pictured?

Finally, we have Roger Daltrey, the lead singer of The Who, at the Warehouse Health Club in 1986.

Were you one of the lucky ladies arm-in-arm with him?
