Is anyone else as lost as I am? I won't take it personally if it's just me, as it so frequently is, but I can't remember what day of the week it is a lot of the time and I know I'm going to be dating things 2009 for at least the next 3 weeks.

Anyway, I've been out twice this week so far. On Monday I did a 30-minute session - 20 minutes of jogging, finished off with 10 at a high pace. Nothing particularly interesting to report on that one, I have to say. A few becoming-familiar faces were out there with me.

Then there were a few days of work and I've got so out of practice running in the pitch dark of the early mornings that I didn't bother. Wet and cold also set in and made running after work a deeply unattractive prospect. The first time I felt the slightest inclination to go out was Thursday afternoon. This was New Year's Eve and my 4th anniversary, though, so a little drinkie before heading off to the celebrations at my cousin's house in the Sussex countryside seemed a bit more in keeping.

Yesterday was out of the question, for reasons I don't think I need to go into. I'm 100% sure I'm not alone in how yesterday felt. :-)

That said, I did start to recover in the afternoon and headed down to Hove lagoon to do my run on the flat. I much prefer doing that for these short sessions (a 20-minuter on the schedule this time). When I got there, though, I couldn't park! The sunshine and general not-being-at-work situation had brought out the crowds. And fair enough. So I went home, not all that disappointed not to have run. I resolved to return this morning.

And it worked out nicely. The parking area was deserted and the prom very, very quiet. I guess some people's celebrations may have extended into yesterday, so 8 am was as peaceful as anything on the shore. I actually covered 2.2 miles in the 20 minutes, which is better pace-wise than anything else I've done recently. And now I'm home in the warm again, trying to decide whether we really need anything that would necessitate an outing to the shops. Meeting more people this evening - it's all go round here - so am hoping to avoid any unnecessary activity. I'm really getting very old and tired.

A 6-miler is on the cards for tomorrow. Today's conditions would be perfect. Everything crossed.
