I signed up to run the Brighton Marathon as soon as places were made available last June.

I was full of good intentions and set my mind on sticking to a strict training regime.

However, the reality has been very different.

It has always been an ambition of mine to run a marathon and I thought what better time to do it than the year I turn 30.

However, since signing up my training has been somewhat sporadic due to snow, illness and working late.

I have taken to packing my trainers and gear and running the four and a half miles home from work – a good way of killing two birds with one stone.

What's more frustrating is that my boyfriend, who is also training for the marathon, can just go out and run ten miles without stopping even if he hasn't exercised for months.

Now I am starting to worry about whether I will make it round the course. I am determined to complete it whether I run or walk.

It is getting easier now the evenings are becoming lighter and I am looking forward to taking part in such a large event. Adrenaline will probably have a large part to play on the day but whether I will ever run a marathon again remains to be seen.

For now I just have to concentrate on getting my head down and putting all my efforts into getting fitter.
