THIS accident happened on April 21, 1939 and was reported in the Bucks Free Press on April 28.
A party of school children on their way to Mill End School were saved when a double decker bus in which they were travelling came into collision with a lorry at the cross roads of Green Street and Oakridge Road, High Wycombe, early Friday morning and burst into flames.
The driver of the bus Richard Belson was sadly killed in the accident and Thames Valley and London Transport Company have since held a guard of honour at his funeral which took place on Tuesday.
Most of the 20-30 school children had been on the upper deck of the bus and conductor Hayden Lippiatt said: "Most of the children were on the upper deck and for a moment, of course, there was panic. They were hurried out just in time."
