Andrew Whing today backed Albion to challenge for the play-offs.

But Seagulls boss Dean Wilkins has played down the chances of him returning south to help that promotion push.

Whing is hoping to be involved in Coventry's key Championship tussle with Southend tomorrow after being recalled early from his Albion loan spell.

He believes he has left a squad with the potential to reach League One's top six.

The rightback said: "Brighton have got injuries at the minute but when everybody gets back there is a great chance of them pushing for the play-offs. There is a great team spirit there and that shows in the performances."

Wilkins admits Micky Adams' move to take Whing back was a painful blow. Asked if it had also scuppered chances of the player moving to Sussex permanently in the transfer window, he said: "It looks that way at the moment.

"There is another rightback at Coventry who has been injured so Micky might just be keeping an eye on that.

But for the time being it is certainly a kick between the legs for us."
