Crawley Town have appointed former Peterborough and Luton Town manager Lil Fuccillo as their new chief scout.

Fuccillo replaces Martin Hinshelwood who left the Checkatrade.com Stadium last month to follow former manager Richie Barker to Portsmouth.

The 57-year-old was most recently scouting for Bristol City but has previously worked in player recruitment for Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle, Everton and Swansea.

Manager John Gregory said: “Lil has got a wealth of experience and contacts in the game and is the ideal replacement for Martin Hinshelwood.

“I trust his advice on players and although the final decision on recruitment rests with me I know with my existing coaching staff and also Lil that I have excellent experience and knowledge to call upon when it comes to identifying players who we feel can take Crawley Town forward.”

Fuccillo helped take Paolo Di Canio to Sheffield Wednesday and was responsible for the signings of Fabricio Coliccini and Jonas Gutierrez at Newcastle.

Fuccillo said: “I have known John a long time and I like his approach to the game. He wants good footballers at Crawley who play the right way and hopefully I can help find them for the club.

“I really think John can take the club forward. I have been made to feel very welcome and I can’t wait to get started and help make Crawley Town an even better club.”
