Dean White admits Albion have a fight on their hands to stay up after their losing run continued.

A fifth defeat in succession in League One against fellow strugglers Millwall leaves the Seagulls just three points above the relegation zone.

Assistant manager White, who took charge of the team in the absence of the flu-hit Dean Wilkins, said: "The league does not lie.

"There is no point kidding ourselves, we need to get a few results and get ourselves up the table.

"Not so long ago we were talking about getting into the play-offs.

"If we can put another run together similar to what we did then things will change around quickly but it is one thing talking about it, it is another doing it."

Darren Byfield took advantage of a misjudgement by Joel Lynch and hesitancy by keeper Wayne Henderson midway through the first half to lob Millwall to their third League victory in a row.

White said: "We are disappointed with the result. I cannot fault the fantastic effort the lads put in, it was probably naivety at both ends of the pitch.

"It was a poor goal we conceded, schoolboy stuff really.

"It was a 60 or 70 yard ball pumped forward and the first time their centre forward (Byfield) touched it the ball was in the back of our net.

"The lads know we are not happy about it.

"We were chasing the game after that but we lacked that bit of quality in the final third."

Striker Alex Revell, like Wilkins, missed the match through illness.

White added: "Losing Alex Revell was a blow but we have got to get on with it.

"We need a bit more guile up front but that is not a criticism of Joe Gatting and Jake Robinson.

"Jake had his best game for a while and Joe also did well."

Albion under-18s' match away to Portsmouth was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Crawley won 2-0 at Aldershot in the Conference National.
