Albion boss Dean Wilkins today underlined his determination to land his transfer targets after another injury blow to his small squad.

Striker Alex Revell, who missed Saturday's sixth consecutive defeat against Millwall through illness, was last night ruled out for up to eight weeks after damaging ankle ligaments in a training accident on Tuesday.

It leaves Wilkins short of cover up front, with rookie Joe Gatting and recent signing Nathan Elder the only recognised strikers left to partner top scorer Jake Robinson.

Wilkins said: "Losing Alex is a big blow because we are light in numbers as it is and he has played a major part in our season up to now.

"We're still trying to bring players in - it is something I have spoken to the chairman Dick Knight about.

"The supporters have been fantastic in their appreciation of our situation.

"They recognise there is still a passion and desire.

"But there is inexperience in the squad and that inexperience has shown at crucial moments. Our good football is breaking down too much so we are not turning enough of it into goals."

Wilkins believes Revell, who has scored ten goals since signing from non-league Braintree last summer, can return a better player.

He said: "Alex is devastated. There is nothing worse for a player than to be stuck in the treatment room.

But Alex needs to use the period he is out in a positive way. To analyse the game deeper than he has ever done for when he comes back."

Albion physio Malcolm Stuart said: "We had a scan which confirmed our worst fears. Alex has damaged two of his three lateral ligaments in the ankle.

"He will see a specialist on Monday to see how we can progress. We would estimate he would be out for between six to eight weeks. It could be longer as we don't know from experience how his body will respond to treatment."

Stuart also revealed that defender Adam Hinshelwood, who has been troubled by a knee problem, will see a specialist next week.

He added that first-year pro Wes Fogden can now undergo full rehabiliation after an operation to remove a benign tumour in his back The versatile Gary Hart, who has had a virus, returns to training today ahead of Saturday's League One trip to Chesterfield.

Kerry Mayo is having treatment for a calf strain.
