Gwion Edwards admits he is still pinching himself after being called into the Wales squad for the first time.

Edwards will join up with Crawley team-mate Joe Walsh and the rest of the Wales squad today ahead of the European Championship qualifiers against Bosnia Herzegovina and Cyprus.

The 21-year-old celebrated the achievement by scoring the only goal as Reds beat Luton Town in the JP Trophy at Kenilworth Road last night.

Edwards, who has won six caps at under-21 level, said: “It was a complete shock when the gaffer told me after the game. He announced it in front of the whole team in the changing room and I was a bit stunned.

“I never expected it. It’s funny as I was joking with Joe about it before he got called up on Monday and now I’m going to be joining him.

“I’m buzzing and just can’t wait to get there today and get a taste of training with so many top players.”

Crawley will now be without both Edwards and Walsh for their home game against Peterborough United on Saturday.

Boss John Gregory said: “I am so proud for both of them although it is tinged with sadness as we will be without two of our best players at the weekend.

“But to think that a club like Crawley have two players in a full Wales squad alongside Gareth Bale from Real Madrid is quite amazing.”
