Keith Greenfield believes Sussex possess some of the most exciting young prospects at Hove for years after announcing the club’s academy intake for 2015.
Sussex have selected just seven players to be part of the set-up this year with the county focusing on quality not quantity.
Leo Cammish, Izzy Collis, George Garton, Tom Haines and Phil Salt have all retained their places from last season’s programme while Daniel Doram and Jonty Jenner have been selected for the first time.
Sussex have had up to 11 players in their academy in recent years but only a handful – the likes of Harry Finch, Matt Hobden and Fynn Hudson-Prentice – have managed to go on to break through into the first team.
Academy director Greenfield is confident all six male players have a good chance of making the step up and that Collis can push for England recognition in the future.
Greenfield said: “It is a very good group. It is much smaller than we usually have but the quality is very high.
“The last few years we’ve had nine or ten or sometimes 11 but this year we’ve looked at it and needed to be convinced they could all go on to bigger things."
