Greg Halford or Aaron Hughes have been backed to fill a centre-half void for Albion at Millwall tonight.

They are vying to replace top scorer Lewis Dunk, who begins a two-match ban.

The versatile Halford, on loan from Nottingham Forest, has not started in the centre of defence since December.

Veteran Northern Ireland international Hughes made his only appearance since early December in the 3-2 home win against Ipswich in January.

Manager Chris Hughton admitted: “It’s a difficult decision. Greg played at centre-half in the games just before I came here and did very well in that position.

“He gives us something different perhaps to Hughesy who is a run-of-the-mill individual, very good defender and very experienced.

“That’s the sort of competition you want and the sort of tough decisions you want. I’m quite sure that who ever comes in for Dunky won’t let themselves down.

“If you see Aaron training every day he is always making himself ready and available for every game, because he trains very well, so it will be a straight decision, not one based on fitness. Greg hasn’t started many games either, although he played against Reading.”

Halford was used at right-back for last week’s 2-1 defeat at the Madejski Stadium.
