Albion will not be rushing Alex Revell back into action, despite their desperation for more firepower.

Ten-goal Revell resumes full training tomorrow, just four weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage which was expected to keep him out until April.

He is targeting Nottingham Forest's visit to Withdean at the weekend for his comeback but manager Dean Wilkins warned: "I think Saturday could be too soon. When you have been out for the length of time he has, just to have three days training and then go into a game is a big ask.

"He has made a quicker recovery than we thought he would. What we cannot do now is be silly about it and put him in a situation where he is back out for another two or three weeks. We just have to look at it day by day."

Albion go into tonight's relegation battle at Leyton Orient without a goal for 400 minutes, so the unexpected speed of Revell's return to contention is a welcome boost.

Wilkins said: "It will be a lift because of the qualities he gives us. His energy levels are terrific.

"We have the option of using him wide, playing in a 4-3-3 and hitting diagonals to use his ability in the air, and he did well when he was playing down the middle."

A weary Jake Robinson could pay the price tonight for a League One goal drought dating back to his hat-trick at Huddersfield at the end of October.

Albion's 12-goal top scorer was paired with Dean Cox at Brentford on Saturday but it did not work and the Seagulls looked much more dangerous when Bas Savage was brought on in the second half.

Wilkins admits he would have liked to have rested Robinson and Cox before now.

"It is something I have been saying since I was given the job. There have been periods when we should have taken Joel Lynch out earlier and if we could have we would have.

"We've been able at times to take Tommy Fraser out and when he has stepped back in I think he has performed better.

"We've not had the luxury to do that with Coxy and Jake. If we'd had that luxury I think they would possibly be performing better.

"They are in their first seasons really. I know Jake has been in and around the squad for a few years now but this is his longest run in the side and he is still a young man.

"There are times when you need to come out, watch a few games and literally chill out a little bit.

"Look at some of the things that clubs like Man United do? Ronaldo got sent away on holiday for a few days and then comes back and scores the next game he plays. That's fantastic if you can do it.

"The reason for doing that with Ronaldo was to freshen him up. It's impossible to do that at our level but there are times when we have needed to relieve players of that pressure and replace them with others."
