Albion boss Chris Hughton has praised Jake Forster-Caskey’s attitude as he weighs up whether to give the England under-21 international another start.

Forster-Caskey has not sulked in training after being overlooked by Hughton.

The midfielder made only his second start since early February in last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by promoted Watford at the Amex.

Now Forster-Caskey is hoping for another chance to press his claims to retain a spot in Gareth Southgate’s young England squad for the Euro finals in the Czech Republic in June.

Albion go to third-placed Middlesbrough tomorrow (12.15) for their Championship curtain-closer with Forster-Caskey in the manager’s thoughts.

Hughton told The Argus: “As regards Jake as a footballer I like him.

“He’s a talented lad and I think credit to him, because he hasn’t played as much under me as he would like or what he was used to before.

“But he trains well every day and he is a talented player. Probably the difficulty I’ve had a little bit is just in the system that I play, fitting him in.

“I thought considering he hasn’t played he did well (against Watford). He showed really good commitment and was a decent part of some of our good form in the first half.”

Forster-Caskey, if he gets the nod, will clash with England under-21s team-mate and Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson.

They were on the same side when Southgate’s prospects beat Germany 3-2 at the Riverside last month in a warm-up for the Euro finals.
