Martin Dugard has revealed Eastbourne are already thinking about their line-up for next year.

And it could include Tom Brennan, at least for the latter stages of the campaign.

Eagles have already decided they would like to remain in the National League in 2016 if permitted.

And they are looking at which riders they could bring into the side as they look to start a production line of untapped speedway talent.

The club have already brought three new riders into the league this year in Georgie Wood, Bradley Wilson-Dean and Kelsey Dugard, who made his debut at the age of 16.

The stage is handed over to even younger racers today as Arlington stages round two of the British Youth Championship (5pm).

And that will give fans a chance to see Brennan, still only 13, in serious action.

The club are also looking at grasstracker Charley Powell for next term.

Eastbourne were pleased with their talent-spotting and evaluating efforts over the winter.

The difference between their lower-ranked riders and those of Rye House last Sunday was dramatic.

Dugard said: “We knew what we were doing when we built our team. We had good people in the pipeline.

“We have still got a couple more. Charley could be on a par with what Georgie has done this year.

“That’s us looking a year in advance already if we are able to remain in the National League.

“That really depends on the licence. It’s up for assessment at the end of this season and officially it’s an Elite League licence which was put on ice for a year.

“We would like to run in the National League next year.

“We would look to have the framework of a similar side but moving around our assessed three-point riders.”

Brennan already looks a star in the making and had to choose between 250cc and 500cc racing this year.

Dugard, who works as his mentor and mechanic, said: “He opted for 250cc. He is doing the World Championship in France this year and we are gunning for that as well.

“Hopefully he progresses to the 500cc next year.

“The rules are he can come into the National League when he is 15, which is July next year.

“Charley spends a lot of time on the international grasstrack scene.

“He is quite happy to enjoy his grasstrack this year without too much stress.

“Grasstrack is like playing football in the park with your mates.

“When you move into speedway it’s like playing football in the stadium.”

Eagles are serving up 42 races for a fiver today across various classes.

Some of the riders have already ridden at Arlington this year in second halves but this is more serious business.

Brennan, who lives in Hassocks and has four British age-group titles already, will have a point to prove after last week’s opener at Scunthorpe.

Dugard said: “Tom came second and was disappointed not to win.

“I couldn’t be there because I was running Eastbourne and nor could the people who usually help him.

“We had a mechanic help him, who did well, but when you know the kid you know what he can do and what he needs. You make the right changes to suit that.

“When he got back he was still in the same gearing as when he left here because he didn’t have the confidence to change stuff.”
