There is no stopping Albion's rampant reserves.

Another comprehensive victory at Woodside Road last night, their fourth in a row, kept alive their hopes of pipping Southampton for the Pontin's Holidays Combination League title.

Doug Loft was a diamond with goals in each half which put Albion firmly in charge.

Loft, operating as the advanced member of the midfield diamond formation, spent last summer with some of his team-mates learning the skills of boxing from former Shoreham heavyweight Scott Welch.

The former Hastings youngster evidently took on board Welch's tips because he floored Millwall with a left-right combination.

He opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, latching on to a pass inside by Nathan Elder to beat Preston Edwards with a left-foot shot which the Lions' keeper got a hand to but could not keep out.

Loft, desperate to earn a new contract, doubled Albion's advantage straight after the break by sliding in with his right foot a low cross from Alex Frutos.

Albion thrashed Queens Park Rangers 8-2 last week and won by three goals before that against both Southampton and Crystal Palace.

It could have been another rout to match the annihilation of Rangers if they had made the most of a succession of chances either side of half time.

Nathan Elder, who has been in free-scoring form since his December move from Billericay, was the main culprit.

The muscular centre forward dragged wide an effort when he was released by Loft and also stroked wide when well placed.

Tommy Fraser missed the target from close range from a cross by Zoumana Bakayogo and Edwards came to the visitors' rescue with a couple of good stops.

He denied Gary Hart after the long-serving Seagull had been put clean through by Frutos and blocked a powerful header by Elder with his feet.

Edwards could do nothing, though, with 20 minutes left when a rasping drive by Frenchman Frutos struck the crossbar.

Elder was rewarded for his persistence in the final minute when he rose to head home a cross from Loft at the far post, his ninth goal for the reserves.

Albion made light of the absence through injury of topscorer Joe Gatting, whose five goals against Rangers last week lifted his tally to 12.
