Albion striker Chris O’Grady has slipped down Sheffield United’s wish list.
The Blades are believed to be less likely to make a move for the target man after a change of manager at Bramall Lane.
New boss Nigel Adkins would ideally love to sign a striker but is thought to want a different type of player to O’Grady, who topped the wanted list when previous boss Nigel Clough was in charge.
Adkins has offered no comment to suggestions he could move for Billy Sharp, who he managed at Scunthorpe, Southampton and Reading.
Albion are looking to boost their attacking options as part of a summer upgrade of the squad.
Adrian Colunga, who remains on the club’s books after a loan stint at Granada, could be a target for newly-promoted Sporting Gijon as they look for a striker.
Colunga came through the youth ranks at Sporting, who recently clinched promotion back to the top-flight Liga BBVA.
Meanwhile the agent representing out-of-contract Spanish goalgetter Sergi Enrich has told The Argus he has not heard back from the Seagulls following initial contact several weeks ago.
Albion will visit League One new boys Southend United in the first round of the Capital One Cup in the week starting August 10.
The Seagulls were handed their first trip to Roots Hall since the final weeks of the 2009-10 in yesterday’s draw.
Albion’s Championship fixture list is announced today and will be online at theargus.co.uk from 9am. The final round of games will be on Saturday, May 7 (12.30pm).
