Albion have handed first competitive starts to Glen Rea, Niki Maenpaa and Liam Rosenior at Southend tonight.
The Finnish goalkeeper and experienced right-back come into the side for the first round of the Capital One Cup as two of eight changes.
Rea, the Republic of Ireland under-21 international, gets his big chance in the centre of defence alongside Gordon Greer.
Defenders Greer and Gaetan Bong remain in the side from the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the league.
