Nathan Elder is targeting more starts and goals in Albion's first team.

That is the robust striker's aim next season after celebrating his full debut by scoring in Saturday's closing 1-1 draw at Cheltenham.

Elder's first-half header followed a dozen substitute appearances at senior level and a prolific run in the reserves since signing from Billericay in December.

He said: "I think I am the only person looking forward to pre-season to get the fitness in me because I was definitely feeling it towards the end.

"I've learnt a helluva lot from the other boys and I am looking forward to coming back.

"The target is always going to be to get into the starting line-up. If you are not in the starting XI that is where you have got to work to be and if you are there you have got to work to stay there. I am more than up for the task.

"Scoring goals is my job. As a striker that is what you need to do, otherwise you are not doing your job properly."

The unmarked Elder's first-half header from a Zesh Rehman cross was cancelled out by John Finnigan's 87th-minute penalty for Cheltenham, awarded for handball against Tommy Elphick.

Elder, reflecting on his instant impact, said: "I saw the defender was going forward so I just tried to pull off him and the ball was perfect, the type of thing strikers wish for.

"When people give you that sort of service you can't complain. A win would have been nice but I don't think I could have wished for a better debut."
