Connor Goldson expects to turn a lifelong Wolves fan into an Albion supporter today.

Goldson admits his dad’s constant chatter about Wanderers put him off the Molineux outfit when he was growing up in Wolverhampton.

The defender could make his second Championship start as the Seagulls take on Kenny Jackett’s suddenly resurgent side.

Dad Winston will be in the stand, putting aside his long-held allegiance for a day and backing his boy.

Goldson, pictured below, said: “I’m from Wolverhampton but this game doesn’t mean that much to me.

“It’s just a game of football, a league game we want to get three points out of. We need to win the game.

“I used to go to a few Wolves game when I was younger but it’s probably more special for my dad and for my family. My dad is a big Wolves fan. I’m not really. I think because my dad was such a Wolves fan it kind of put me off!

“I don’t know why. When I was growing up it was Wolves, Wolves, Wolves and it put me off supporting them.

“My dad is down for New Year’s with me and to go and watch the game. I think he would probably prefer a home win now, watching his son play.”

Winston’s love of Wolves did not stop him taking his son away from Molineux to further his fledgling career.

Goldson revealed: “I played with Wolves when I was younger from about aged eight to 14.

“I played with a few of the lads who are there now, like Jack Price and Ethan Ebanks-Landell. But we had a new manager in the under-14s and he stopped playing me.

“I stopped enjoying football so my dad pulled me out of there and we went to Shrewsbury the year after.”

Goldson has played a waiting game since his subsequent switch from Shropshire to Sussex.

But he was happy with his full debut against Ipswich and now targets a first win.

He said: “I know a lot of the boys from Wolves.

“They have won their last two. I think before it was getting a bit nervy and they had lost a few games but they have picked up now and they are a good side.

“They have got good individuals so I think we will have to be wary. But we are near the top of the league for a reason.”
