CHRIS HUGHTON has offered some backing to under-fire centre-back Lewis Dunk.

But the Albion boss is facing a big defensive decision after welcoming back his skipper for tonight’s game at Rotherham (7.45pm).

Hughton confirmed Gordon Greer is “in the frame” to face the Millers after recovering from a knee injury.

Should he start, Connor Goldson and Dunk – at fault for Hull’s winner against the Seagulls on Saturday –would appear to be battling it out to partner him while Liam Ridgewell operates at left-back.

Hughton said: “It’s good to have our captain back. You rely on everybody but he is a player who has fared very well for us, has been involved in good performances for us.

“Young Connor Goldson has come in and done well. It is really good experience for him, “As regards to Lewis, he has been excellent for us. Making any mistakes is part and parcel of the game.

“Sometimes when you’re a keeper or a defender, mistakes like that will happen because of the position you play.”

Anthony Knockaert could start on the right, subject to international clearance and Hughton expects to fit in smoothly despite a lack of training time with his new colleagues.

He added: “Sometimes you might bring a player in who has not been playing and you need to get him up to speed.

“Anthony as been playing all the games so, from a fitness level, fine.

“The role that we want him to play here is one that a very familiar for him.

“He played that role at Leicester in this division as well so we don’t see too many problems with him settling in.”
