ALBION boss Chris Hughton has targeted two more signings after the “disappointment” of Alex Pritchard reneging on an agreement and joining Norwich instead.

He will complete his summer transfer business with an alternative deep-lying striker and a central defender before the window shuts at the end of the month.

Hughton told The Argus: “We’d still like to bring in two players. Our thinking was to play Alex Pritchard as a No.10 off the front, so that is still a position we’re looking at and, of course, centre-half as well.”

Hughton lost out at the last-gasp to his old club Norwich, who hijacked the deal for Spurs prospect Pritchard.

The 23-year-old joined Norwich yesterday for around £8 million – considerably more than the fee agreed by the Seagulls with Spurs.

Tottenham were prepared to honour their arrangement with Albion but Pritchard was intent on joining the Canaries, leaving Hughton reflecting on the actions of the player rather than his agent ahead of tomorrow’s Championship opener at Derby.

“The facts are we worked very well with Tottenham and they were excellent,” he said. “We had an agreement with Tottenham, representatives and the player.

“Norwich came in very late and the player chose to go there, so I’m very disappointed. We did have an agreement with all three parties but these are things you have to accept.

“It’s not nice and very disappointing but you have to move on, make the most of the players you have and look at other options and the massive game we have on Saturday.”

While the search for a centre-half replacement for departed captain Gordon Greer continues, the capture of latest signing Oliver Norwood from Reading could prompt the exit of Danny Holla and another spell out on loan for Rohan Ince.

Hughton said: “We wanted four players in that centre midfield and what we have at the moment is Dale (Stephens) and Beram (Kayal), Steve Sidwell and Oliver Norwood.

“Outside of that, Ritchie Towell can play in two or three positions and we are still having a very good look at him. He’s injured at the moment.

“It’s no secret that if there is an opportunity for Danny to move on then we will look for that and also for Rohan Ince to go out on loan. He had a loan period at Fulham last season and that’s one we would do again.”
