Worthing are celebrating one of the finest results in the club’s history.
The Ryman premier outfit came from behind to win 2-1 at National League side Dagenham and Redbridge in the FA Trophy.
They bridged a gap of two-and-a-half divisions to go through with goals from Will Hendon and Lloyd Dawes in the second half.
Joint boss Jon Meeney also hailed an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Jack Fagan and his back four.
The win is on a par with that achieved by the club when they won 1-0 at Conference high-flyers Dover in an FA Cup replay 17 years ago.
Meeney said: “It’s right up there with the club’s best results.
“The boys were fantastic. As a management team, I think we are quite emotional.”
Dagenham are fourth in the fifth tier while Rebels are two divisions below them and currently stand 19th.
There were four divisions between the clubs as recently as last season.
