Swindon Town are raving about their on-loan Albion midfielder Rohan Ince.

Ince scored the first goal of his loan stint with the League One outfit in the 3-1 midweek win over Gillingham.

He has made a big impact in a deep-lying midfield role, protecting the back four, and has impressed Swindon boss Luke Williams, the former Albion development coach.

But the former Chelsea youngster is likely to be beyond Swindon’s budget in terms of making the deal more permanent.

Williams said: “The crowd have really taken to him and quite rightly too.

“He has given us something that we were really crying out for and he’s really understood the role that we’ve asked of him.

“It is a different role to what he’s done previously at Brighton and at Chelsea but he’s really taken to it and for him to get a goal is a great opportunity for the fans to really show him how much they appreciate him.

“It was another man of the match performance so I’m really pleased for him because I think all of his defensive work sometimes means he doesn’t get the opportunity to get forward.”

Team-mate Jon Obika also spoke highly of Ince after his display against Gillingham.

Obika was on loan to the Seagulls when Ince was a big part of a three-man midfielder under head coach Oscar Garcia in the 2013-14 season.

The former Tottenham striker said: “He played a lot of games when I was there, he was always starting and you can see the quality he has while playing for us.

“We’ve always known he’s got an engine, he’s settled down now and we’re seeing the real Incey.

“He’s just a cover to the defence and he brings the confidence for the front players to go out and express themselves.”

A clearly ecstatic Ince bundled the ball home from close range after a corner to equalise for Swindon in an impressive come-from-behind win which boosted their chances of beating the drop.

He signed a new contract with the Seagulls early last season taking him through until June 2018.
