Albion fans have never forgotten Connor Goldson during his enforced absence.

And he played a big part in promotion celebrations at the Amex.

Goldson’s season was cut short due to heart surgery but supporters have ensured he has never slipped from their thoughts.

They have sung his praises at every match with their chorus to the tune of Spandau Ballet’s classic Gold.

Yesterday, Goldson was up in the West Stand with his colleagues and, in what looked rather emotional scenes at one stage, joined in the singing and took the applause.

He then launched the next song, in honour of Anthony Knockaert.

The former Shrewsbury player left the Riverside fighting back tears when Albion were edged out of promotion on the final day of last season.

This time he was back alongside defensive sidekick and close friend Lewis Dunk – in very different circumstances.

And the fans loved it
