Pascal Gross has urged Albion to grow in confidence - as he is shortlisted for a Premier League honour.

The free-running German midfielder has been nominated for the top-flight’s player of the month award for September after finding his feet in English football Now he has told The Argus how a 0-0 draw at Watford was a turning point for him and the team.

And why he believes the Seagulls should be high on confidence as they prepare to face Everton.

Gross has been piling up the miles during matches and told The Argus: “The running has always been part of my game and it is one of my good things.

“But the first two games were tough. I needed to settle in the Premier League.

“I think since the third game (at Watford) we are doing much better and we have played well in every game and had a chance to take points.

“From the Watford game we thought we could win games, we can compare with the other teams.

“The first two games were not too bad. Man City were good but they only scored on 70 minutes.

“At Leicester, after a goal in the first minute it is always a tough game after that.

“Then at Watford we kept a clean sheet, we took our first point and then we believed we could win – which is what we did after, against West Brom.

“Since then I think we have played every game with more self confidence.

Albion have only scored five goals in seven games and Gross has been involved in all of them in some way.

Only four teams have managed fewer goals than the Seagulls, who drew a blank last time out in defeat at Arsenal.

Gross said: “I don’t think we played too bad (at the Emirates) but, if we had played with more self confidence we could have scored one or two goals.

“They had good chances, I know, but when we play sometimes we need more self confidence or to get the last pass right, maybe we can create good chance.”

Gross is in elite company on the seven-man shortlist.

He is joined by Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne, Tottenham striker Harry Kane, Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata and Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles.

A Premier League panel will deliberate over the shortlist, while fans will also have a ten per cent share of the vote.

The votes will then be combined to determine who claims the award for September.

Votes can be cast via the panel easily found at premierleague.com
