EVERTON defender Michael Keane has joined the England squad – with Albion fans still wondering why Lewis Dunk did not get the call.

Keane replaces Dele Alli in terms of numbers for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

He proved his fitness in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Watford after suffering a gash to the leg recently..

But fellow centre-back Gary Cahill was yesterday being assessed by his club Chelsea before joining Gareth Southgate’s party.

Alli has been sidelined by a hamstring injury.

Dunk’s England claims have been pushed by fans and media figures alike after his flying start to the season.

His omission was further questioned after the clean sheet at Swansea on Saturday.

Albion boss Chris Hughton said: “When it comes to international selection for any of our players, that’s the responsibility of the international manager.

“All I can talk about is how he has been for us – and he has been outstanding for us. Even before my time here he has got better and better as each season has gone.

“Some of the parts of his game he has needed to improve, he has done that. And he has only done it through hard work.”
