Albion slithered out of the Checkatrade Trophy with a 3-1 defeat at Stevenage tonight.

The Seagulls had lots of possession but were 2-0 down by the break.

Alex Samuel turned in low cross in the 19th minute and Kyle Wootton converted a disputed penalty conceded by Jamie Murphy in added time.

Albion had chances early in the second half as they improved with Uwe Huenemeier, Aaron Connolly and sub Soufyan Ahannach denied.

But Samuel turned well to fire home his second and the hosts’ third on 80 minutes.

Albion replied in added time when Murphy was sent clear to slide a shot past keeper Joe Fryer.

Ezequiel Schelotto, Liam Rosenior and Tim Krul were the other over-age players involved and Izzy Brown also got 90 minutes.
