Mathew Ryan has revealed how he was one step ahead of opposite number Jack Butland amid drama at Stoke.
Ryan put a brand new pair of gloves to great use by keeping out Charlie Adam’s 90th-minute spot kick.
He spoke to England keeper Butland after the game and wished him well for the run-in and the World Cup.
But he said that, rather than about the game, most of the chat was real goalkeepers union stuff – about what they were wearing.
Ryan told The Argus: “We were having a chat about the new Nike gloves which have come out.
“They are a new style and I was asking him why he wasn’t wearing them.
“He was one of the bigger names who was endorsing them.
“It’s a new style, looks a bit like a rubber glove. It’s a tighter fit.
“He told me Nike isn’t allowing him to wear them until the World Cup starts.”
