Sussex have their first win under head coach Jason Gillespie.

Skipper Ben Brown saw them to a three-wicket success in their Championship tussle with Middlesex at Hove, making a composed 65 not out under pressure.

Chasing 230 to win, the hosts found themselves still 102 runs short late in the morning session with just four wickets to fall.

Brown and Michael Burgess (22) reduced that target to 15 before the latter went lbw to Middlesex skipper Dawid Malan.

But Ollie Robinson helped Brown see it through.

Sussex had started the day on 35-2 and, for the first hour on the final day Stiaan van Zyl (45) and night-watchman Danny Briggs (39) made comfortable progress, extending their third-wicket stand to 89.

But four wickets in nine overs, with Australian Hilton Cartwright picking up two from successive balls, provided another twist in the tale.
