Albion have rejected a second bid from Glasgow Rangers for central defender Connor Goldson.
The Scottish giants had an opening offer of around £1.5 million turned down last week as new boss Steven Gerrard tries to build a squad to close the gap on big rivals Celtic.
Rangers have returned with another bid which The Argus understands is still well short of the Seagulls' valuation of Goldson.
Albion are reluctant to lose the 25-year-old but he has become increasingly frustrated by a lack of game time, with Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy dominant in the centre-back positions.
Albion this week signed Nigerian international Leon Balogun from Mainz. Balogun, like, Goldson, offers natural right-footed cover and competition for Duffy.
