UWE HUENEMEIER has revealed why Leon Balogun can make a swift transition from Bundesliga to Premier League.

The former Seagulls centre-back believes his successor has the pace and experience to adapt to the English game.

Balogun, a recent signing from Mainz, is set to feature for Nigeria against the Czech Republic today (2pm) as he prepares for the World Cup.

He will turn attentions to the Premier League only after the Super Eagles have completed their fixtures in Russia.

The former Werder Bremen and Dusseldorf defender will follow the path taken by Huenemeier three years ago when he moved to English football.

Huenemeier told The Argus: “As a Nigerian international he should be well prepared and knows what is needed to play in the Premier League.

“He is smart enough to get used to the physicality of the Premier League because he played at a high level for a long time already.

“He has got quite a lot of experience for his age and is probably eager to prove himself at the next level.”

Huenemeier was already aware of Balogun before he came to Albion early in the 2015-16 season and has continued to keep close tabs on the German league.

He added: “Earlier in his career he played right-back most of the time. He is very quick and quite mobile.”

Sources in the North East still expect Albion to come in with an improved bid for Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair.

The Argus understands Albion are taking their time assessing options having made one bid each for McNair and Reading defender Liam Moore.

Seagulls chairman Tony Bloom and chief executive Paul Barber are preparing for tomorrow’s Premier League annual meeting in Harrogate.
