Bernardo is hoping to delight the late risers in Brazil with a few Premier League crackers.

The left-back scored from long range in yesterday’s 3-0 friendly win over Crawley behind closed doors.

He knows people will be watching back in his native Brazil when the big games come around this term.

Bernardo said: “In Brazil everyone watches just the Premier League - apart the Brazilian League.

“You know these lazy Sundays when you just wake up at like 12 and turn on the TV?

“That’s exactly the time Premier League games are being shown on TV in Brazil!”

Bernardo was not surprised to score in a friendly and hopes to follow it up when things get serious.

He said: “It was a really nice goal. It was from far away “I was always scoring in the friendly games and then the competition starts I don’t score many goals.

“I hope that changes now that I am playing for Brighton.”

Tomer Hemed added his second goal of pre-season to double the lead after being nicely found by Davy Propper.

And Markus Suttner, playing on the left of midfield, volleyed a third from Bruno’s cross, which was delivered to the far post in flamboyant Rabona style.

The match was played over two 30-minute periods.

It gave Crawley chance to offer new signing Romain Vincelot, the former Albion midfielder signed from Bradford on Thursday, a first run out.

While Bruno turned on the Brazilian-type skills, Bernardo admitted his new surroundings away from football remind him of home.

He added: “I came from a really cold place, Germany, and I arrived here and I saw the sun and the beach. It reminded me a bit of Brazil.

“The city has a nice soul.”
