Albion boss Chris Hughton has pleaded for patience with record buy Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Jurgen Locadia.

Jahanbakhsh made his full debut and Locadia also started Tuesday’s 1-0 exit from the Carabao Cup at home to Southampton.

The former Dutch Eredivisie duo are both likely to be back on the bench for Fulham’s Premier League visit to the Amex on Saturday.

Albion bought Iranian World Cup right-winger Jahanbakhsh from AZ Alkmaar this summer for around £17 million, while Locadia arrived in January from PSV Eindhoven for £14 million.

Hughton said: “With Ali he came back late from World Cup duty. He has to be able to adapt to the game here. It will take a bit of time.

“There’s no doubt he’s a talent, we know that from what he produced in Holland last season, but he didn’t start the same time as everybody else, so he has been a little bit behind.

“He will certainly get up to speed and the game won’t have done him any harm.”

Locadia, used as a centre-forward against Southampton, has been hit by injuries, including one during pre-season.

Hughton said: “There are players that haven’t played as regularly as others. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer to get into a real rhythmn, to get to the real levels you need in each game.

“I thought Jurgen worked hard enough. When you are a striker, when you have been playing regularly, things fall for you and it just gives you that little bit of an edge.

“Probably with Jurgen he is certainly working hard enough, he just needs a bit of a break.”

Hughton still expects to be without Lewis Dunk (ankle), Bruno (hamstring), Jose Izquierdo (knee) and Florin Andone (groin) against Fulham.

He said: “Dunky is better than we thought, which is really good. Him and Bruno would be the closer ones, probably more realistically after the international break.”
