Sussex take a 340-run lead into day three of their Championship tussle after an extraordinary day under grey Hove skies.

The hosts had Leicestershire 49-9 in their first innings replying to 373 all out.

However they recovered to reach 133 and then, with morale restored, restricted Sussex to 100-6 after they had opted not to enforce the follow-on.

Sussex added 50 runs for their last two wickets in the morning session before the fun really started.

Ollie Robinson, fresh from agreeing a new deal at Hove, took three wickets in his first two overs en route to figures of 5-24.

Jofra Archer was almost as hard to handle, bagging 5-24 in an explosive passage of play either side of lunch.

Leicestershire were in complete disarray.

But a stand of 84 for the tenth wicket between Callum Parkinson (48) and Mohammad Abbas (32 not out) restored pride.

Where the previous batsmen could barely lay bat on ball, the tailenders looked quite comfortable before Parkinson sent Danny Briggs to Chris Jordan at mid-off just one short of equalling the team’s 117-year-old record for a tenth wicket against Sussex.

Wickets fell at regular intervals as Sussex opted to go back in and also found batting conditions tough.

Harry Finch and Phil Salt made 35 apiece, the latter - usually a rapid scorer - facing 55 balls.
