Chris Rushworth produced an outstanding seven-wicket spell to have Sussex reeling today - after Ollie Robinson completed his third successive five-for.

Sussex reached lunch at the Riverside on 96-8, only seven runs adrift of first-innings parity.

Durham resumed on their overnight total of 92-7, but their return to the crease was to be brief.

Robinson made his first breakthrough of the session, trapping Stuart Poynter lbw for 14 before bowling Matt Salisbury in the same over. The innings came to an abrupt end for 103 when Robinson claimed his third strike of the morning and his five-wicket haul, bowling Nathan Rimmington for five.

The home side hit back in the first over of Sussex's reply. Tom Haines was caught behind by Poynter off the bowling of Rushworth. Sussex were prevented from building a rhythm to their innings as Phil Salt and Luke Wells departed in back-to-back deliveries from Rushworth and Salisbury.

Rushworth claimed his 400th first-class wicket for Durham when he clean bowled Harry Finch for 12. The seamer continued to dominate the Sussex batsmen, removing Ben Brown and Michael Burgess, notching his 21st career five-wicket haul. Will Smith made a brilliant catch at gully to dismiss Chris Jordan before Rushworth bowled Jofra Archer first ball, leaving Sussex 96-8 at the end of the session.
