Cameron Steel's innings of 160 has allowed Durham to build a commanding lead of 313 over Sussex at lunch on day three of their Specsavers County Championship match at Emirates Riverside.

Resuming on 220-4, Durham lost their fifth wicket almost immediately as Axar Patel went for a big shot in the first over, but could only guide the ball straight into the hands of David Wiese off the bowling of Danny Briggs. Steel maintained his form from the previous day and ensured that the home side continued to extend their lead courtesy of a fifty partnership with Paul Collingwood.

Steel reached his 150 from 242 deliveries - the second time he passed the milestone in his career.

The opener's brilliant innings was ended by Tom Haines, who claimed his maiden first-class wicket as Robinson completed the catch at mid-off. Collingwood and Stuart Poynter continued to compound Durham's advantage, surpassing the 300-run mark before the end of the session.
