Sussex’s promotion hopes are officially over for this season.
Their final home Championship fixture of the season meandered gently to a draw with Warwickshire today.
The result is enough to take Warwickshire back to the top flight with Kent.
They batted on throughout the final day to reach 378-3.
Dom Sibley closed on 142 not out but Sam Hain (90) missed out on a ton when he became a maiden first-class victim of Phil Salt.
Salt wheeled away in delight after inducing an edge behind with his medium pace.
Sussex supporters gave Jonathan Trott a generous ovation as he departed Hove for the final time having clipped Chris Jordan to Harry Finch at mid-wicket for eight.
Before that, Ian Bell was taken to hospital after being hit on the right thumb by a delivery from Ollie Robinson. Bell sustained heavy bruising but no break.
Will Rhodes made 88 before being trapped leg-before by Robinson.
