Albion's next opponents Newcastle suffered heartbreak at Old Trafford tonight.
The Seagulls' October 20 hosts looked set to heap more pressure on Jose Mourinho as they took an early 2-0 lead against Manchester United.
But United hit back to win 3-2 with a 90th minute clincher from substitute Alexi Sanchez.
Rafa Benitez needed a result after Newcastle's winless start to the season - but not as much as Mourinho.
The Geordies were 2-0 up in ten minutes through Kenedy, who later limped off, and Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto on his debut.
It could have been more by half-time but Juan Mata, brought on after just 19 minutes by Mourinho at the expense of Eric Bailly, halved the arrears 20 minutes from the end with a free-kick.
Anthony Martial equalised on 76 minutes from Paul Pogba's flick and Sanchez headed in a cross to end United's four-match run without a victory in dramatic fashion.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are next-to-bottom, six points adrift of Albion.
